Berdasarkan observasi dan refleksi ditemukan permasalahan pembelajaran IPS di kelas IV SDN Pakintelan 03.Dalam KBM masih di dominasi guru, dan penggunaan media belum bervariasi. Siswa kurang memperhatikan, cenderung ramai dan terlihat pasif, aktivitas siswa kurang dan hasil belajar rendah. Berdasarkan hal tersebut peneliti mengupayakan peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran melalui PTK yang dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus menggunakan model Word Square dengan media visual. Tujuan penelitian ini meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran IPS melalui model word square dengan media visual. Subjek penelitian adalah guru dan siswa kelas IV SDN Pakintelan 03 Gunungpati. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode tes, dan non tes. Penelitian dinyatakan berhasil karena ada peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran IPS. Hal ini ditunjukkan peningkatan skor keterampilan guru dengan perolehan skor 22; 28; dan 33. Aktivitas siswa meningkat dengan perolehan jumlah rata-rata skor siklus I 21,81; siklus II 25,28; dan siklus III 30,65. Pada hasil belajar meningkat dari siklus I dengan persentase ketuntasan belajar klasikal 71,87%, siklus II 78,12%, dan pada siklus III 84,37%. Simpulan yang diambil adalah melalui model word square dengan media visual meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran IPS yang meliputi keterampilan guru, aktivitas siswa serta hasil belajar siswa.

Based on observations and reflections, there were problems found in social learning of fourth grade SDN Pakintelan 03. In learning process, the teacher was dominating, and not using variety learning media. The students were not focus on the learning, they could not focus and, passive. There were less students activities. Students outcomes were not good. Based on the observation action research was conducted in three cycles using learning model of word square with visual media. Subjects of the action research were students, and teacher SD Pakintelan 03. The data collection techniques were test and non test method. The action research were successful. The score of teacher skills increased in every meeting with the total score of 22, 28, and 33. Students activity increased in every cycle from average score in cycle I 21.81, cycle II 25.28, and cycle III 30.65. Students learning outcomes increased in every cycle with classical completeness percentage in cycle I 71.78%, cycle II 78.12%, and cycle III 84.37%. The conclusion was learning model of word square with visual media improved the skills of teacher, students activities, and students learning outcomes in social learning.
