Climate change presents a global challenge that necessitates engagement from all sectors, including forestry. Indonesia, with its extensive tropical forests, holds a significant position in mitigating climate change through sustainable forest management. This study analyses legal strategies to support the forestry sector in achieving Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing interviews with key stakeholders. The findings indicate that, despite supportive policies and regulations, Indonesia faces persistent challenges, including limited public awareness, conflicting interests, and resource constraints. Addressing these issues requires several strategies: strengthening regulations on sustainable forest management, enhancing collaboration among government, communities, and the private sector, and providing economic incentives for forest conservation. The study underscores the necessity of a comprehensive and inclusive legal framework to reinforce the forestry sector’s contribution to climate change mitigation and the attainment of Indonesia’s NDC targets.
