Abstract

Legal reform is essential for strengthening justice, efficiency, and the rule of law to support sustainable development. This process involves enhancing regulations, judicial institutions, and law enforcement practices to promote consistency, transparency, and the elimination of corruption. Within the sustainability context, legal reform should prioritize environmental protection through emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and responsible waste management. Ecological justice is a foundational principle emphasizing the preservation of ecosystems and natural resources according to the principles of prevention, compensation, strict liability, and sustainable development. From a social justice perspective, ecological justice advocates for alternative economic systems that foster environmentally conscious development and empower communities across political, economic, and cultural dimensions. Currently, Indonesia is experiencing increased investment in the plantation and mining sectors, often without adequate environmental oversight. This trend contributes to deforestation, pollution, and biodiversity loss. Consequently, reform of environmental law enforcement is urgently required. This research adopts a normative juridical approach to analyze Indonesia’s environmental legal framework, with particular attention to its effectiveness in addressing environmental degradation. The primary objective is to align national development goals, especially the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045, with the principles of ecological justice to ensure sustainability and intergenerational equity.
