Strengthening Post-Harvest Fisheries SMEs to Optimize Fishermen's Income in Sugihwaras Village, Pemalang Regency

Fishermen in Sugihwaras Village, Pemalang Regency, face economic challenges due to their dependence on the sale of fresh fish, which is characterized by fluctuating prices and limited added value. The lack of knowledge and skills in post-harvest fishery product processing has constrained opportunities to increase income and develop sustainable fisheries-based enterprises. This community service activity aimed to strengthen post-harvest fisheries small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as an effort to optimize fishermen’s income through modern fishery product processing. The program employed a community empowerment approach consisting of socialization, legal education, training, and interactive discussions involving local fishermen. The activity focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of fisheries-based entrepreneurship, value-added product development, and legal aspects related to fishermen empowerment and SME development. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills regarding modern fishery product processing and the utilization of local fishery resources for economic purposes. The program also increased awareness of business opportunities in the post-harvest fisheries sector and encouraged income diversification through fisheries-based SMEs. In conclusion, strengthening post-harvest fisheries SMEs contributes to the optimization of fishermen’s income by increasing product value, expanding economic opportunities, and supporting the sustainable empowerment of coastal communities in Sugihwaras Village.
