Livestock markets are important nodes in animal distribution and local economic activity, but their operation depends on adequate governance, facilities, animal-health measures, technical management, and transparent transactions. This community service activity aimed to facilitate participatory problem mapping and formulate improvement recommendations for the Kajen Livestock Market in Pekalongan Regency, in collaboration with traders and market managers. The activity used a descriptive-participatory approach through field assessment, in-depth interviews, and participatory listening, followed by formulation of an action plan. The assessment identified five priority aspects: governance, facilities, animal health, technical operations, and trading transactions. Key issues included limited transparency of retribution, weak inter-agency coordination, a single loading gate, lack of official parking, inadequate sanitation and drainage, absence of a dedicated animal-health post, limited veterinary support, manual recording, and strong broker involvement in transactions. Based on these findings, the team formulated recommendations covering transparent information on retribution, clearer market zoning and operating procedures, improved sanitation and access infrastructure, strengthened biosecurity and animal health services, digital or more systematic record-keeping, and stakeholder coordination. The activity provides a practical problem-mapping and recommendation framework that can support market managers and relevant local agencies in subsequent improvement planning.
