Abstract

This study examines the development, thematic structure, and intellectual configuration of democracy, governance, and citizenship research in Indonesian political studies. Using bibliometric analysis, this article analyzes 637 Scopus-indexed journal and review articles related to Indonesia and major political themes such as democracy, governance, citizenship, decentralization, electoral politics, identity politics, digital politics, and political economy. The study combines performance analysis and science mapping, with keyword co-occurrence analysis conducted using VOSviewer. The findings show that Indonesian political studies have developed into a multidimensional field structured by interconnected debates on democratic transformation, governance reform, citizenship participation, local politics, electoral competition, digital transformation, identity, and informal political economy. The bibliometric mapping identifies Indonesia as the central contextual anchor of the literature, while governance, decentralization, citizenship, and electoral politics emerge as major thematic concentrations. Digital politics, identity politics, and political economy appear as more specialized but analytically important areas. This study contributes to Indonesian political scholarship by providing a systematic and replicable mapping of its conceptual linkages and thematic concentrations, while demonstrating the value of bibliometric methods for evaluating the development of political science research in a national context.
