Abstract

This study aims to determine the form and existence of Jalungmas Dance at the Bangkit Sekar Budaya Art Studio in Cilacap Regency. Jalungmas Dance expresses the joy of Cilacap youth in their daily interactions. Jalungmas originated from Jaipong and Calung Banyumas. This dance was officially published as an icon of Cilacap in 1996 through the Regent's Decree No. 431/059/07 issued on September 13, 1996. The research method used was qualitative with a descriptive interpretive approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and literature study. This study refers to the theory of form by Slamet MD and the theory of existence by Soren Kierkegaard. The results of the study show that the form of Jalungmas Dance includes Banyumasan, Surakarta, and Sundanese movement patterns that produce expressions of joy, with the dancers as the main actors and sources of expression in conveying the meaning of the dance, makeup that supports beauty, clothing that modifies the Sundanese and Banyumasan styles, and floor patterns that organize a specific space, supported by dance music that builds rhythm and atmosphere through sigrak kendangan patterns, as well as a performance venue that presents the overall performance from the stage layout and lighting. Jalungmas dance still exists today, especially at the Bangkit Sekar Budaya Art Studio, which plays an important role in the development and preservation of Jalungmas dance. The aesthetic existence of Jalungmas Dance can be seen in the graceful movements of the Garuda and its kendang patterns, the ethical existence is evident in Jalungmas Dance being used as an icon of Cilacap, and the religious existence is found in the sekedah laut ceremony in Cilacap, where Jalungmas Dance serves as a complement.
