Abstract

This study aims to identify the difficulties experienced by students in solving word problems in the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). The subjects of this research were eighth-grade students at a private junior high school in Bandung. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The data collection techniques included administering AKM-type test items and conducting interviews with a sample of six students. The results showed that students experienced difficulties in understanding concepts, determining problem-solving steps, and translating literacy-based problems into mathematical form. The main causes of these difficulties were lack of student focus and challenges in comprehending the reading text. These findings are expected to provide insights for educators in developing more effective learning strategies to improve students’ mathematical literacy skills.
