The loo roll calculator is the brainchild of a London-based team made up of student software developer Ben Sassoon and artist Sam Harris.

The duo came up with the clever idea while chatting about how their toilet paper usage would change during a pandemic.

According to its website, the online calculator has now been used by more than five million people and is 'helping to reduce toilet paper shortage round the world'.

Many people are taking the opportunity to share how many days they will 'survive' on their stash during quarantine on social media

Many people are taking the opportunity to share how many days they will 'survive' on their stash during quarantine on social media.

One took to Twitter, writing: 'I will survive 79 days with my toilet roll in quarantine! This is just crazy! I definitely never thought THIS would be a thing.'

Another commented: 'Tell the truth. How many of you thought you would ever need this??? I will survive 37 days with my toilet roll in quarantine!'

And one tweeted: 'Use this, and then stop buying up all the damned bog roll! Hey, if we can't laugh at oursselves once in a while...'.

Amid growing fears over the Covid-19 pandemic, people have been panic buying items like toilet paper and hand sanitiser over the past couple of weeks.

In order to prevent stockpiling and ensure customers all have access to the necessary product, supermarkets in the UK and Europe have been forced to ration the number of loo rolls customers can buy.

Last week Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged the country to stop panic buying and be 'reasonable' when they go to the supermarkets.

He said: 'We've got good supply chains and farms, there's no reason for shops to be empty.

'Everyone understands why people are buying stuff - we're being advised to stay at home if we have symptoms.

'However, please be reasonable in your shopping and be considerate of other shoppers as you do it.'
