The hour-long 23 Hours To Kill was filmed during his residency at New York's Beacon Theatre before the COVID-19 outbreak led to the cancellation of his last few shows at the venue.

It's set to launch on May 5, just a week after the 66th birthday of the sitcom and stand-up star, who also plans to release his first book in more than 20 years in October.

Jerome Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn, New York, into a Jewish family with roots in Eastern Europe and Syria.

Influenced by his father's rich sense of humour, Seinfeld started watching stand-up comedians on TV at age 10 and fell in love with the art.

After high school on Long Island, he graduated with a communications and theatre degree from Queens College in 1976.

He started doing stand-up in New York's comedy clubs, which led to an appearance on an HBO special by comedian Rodney Dangerfield.

Seinfeld won a recurring role on 1979 comedy Benson, but was fired after three episodes in a career disappointment that led him to focus on stand-up.

Seinfeld made frequent appearances on US late-night variety shows during the 1980s, then teamed up with friend Larry David for a return to the TV sitcom arena.

In 2012 Seinfeld experimented with web series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, interviewing fellow comics while driving them around in vintage cars.

It was an unlikely success, with the show's 11th season airing on Netflix last year.

Seinfeld married publicist Jessica Sklar in 1999. They have three children.
