Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation ability of undergraduate mathematics education students in solving calculus problems. The subjects of this research were three students selected from 20 undergraduate mathematics education students of 2016 U class from The State University of Surabaya. Data collection methods used in this study are written test and tasks-based interview. The results showed that in solving calculus problems, the students were able to display their ideas in multi-representation, accurate but incomplete in graphic, practical in symbolic, not coherently nor precisely in numeric, detail in written verbal but not fluent in spoken verbal, and two of the three students were unable of explaining the relationship between representation types.
