Peningkatan Kualitas Karya Ilmiah Dosen melalui Pelatihan Menghindari Plagiasi

Abstract

Abstrak. Fenomena kurangnya pemahaman dalam penulisan akademik dan referensi bagi dosen Bahasa Inggris adalah hal yang penting untuk dikaji. Selain itu, budaya penulisan dan publikasi karya ilmiah bagi dosen Bahasa Inggris juga perlu ditingkatkan, khususnya dalam publikasi jurnal internasional bereputasi. Meninjau fenomena tersebut, tim Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat melakukan kegiatan peningkatan kualitas keterampilan menulis akademik bagi dosen melalui pelatihan menghindari plagiarisme. Workshop diikuti oleh 30 peserta dosen Bahasa Inggris dari UIN Salatiga dan universitas lain di wilayah Jawa Tengah yang membahas tentang mengidentifikasi unsur plagiarisme dalam karya ilmiah dan tata cara pengutipan berdasarkan APA edisi ke-7. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah sosialisasi/ceramah dan diskusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini dapat menambah pengalaman para dosen dalam hal peningkatan kemampuan menulis karya ilmiah. Selain itu, kegiatan ini membangun wawasan mereka tentang kesalahan umum dalam penulisan akademik sehingga dapat meminimalkan kesalahan yang mungkin terjadi. Lebih lanjut, trainer juga membagikan tips bagaimana mempublikasikan artikel penelitian agar diterima di jurnal terindeks Scopus. Hal ini tentunya menjadi pengetahuan baru bagi para peserta. Akhirnya, dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini terdapat beberapa hal utama yang harus dievaluasi terutama refleksi diri peserta, seperti (1) kurangnya pemahaman peserta dalam mengonstruksi rumusan masalah dalam tesis atau disertasi yang akan dikembangkan menjadi artikel penelitian; (2) kurangnya pengetahuan peserta dalam menerbitkan jurnal terindeks Scopus; dan (3) ketidaksadaran peserta dalam membuat kesalahan umum dalam penulisan akademik.  

Abstract. The phenomenon of the lack of understanding in academic writing and references for English lecturers is important to be investigated. Furthermore, the culture of writing and publishing scientific papers by English lecturers also needs to be increased, especially in the publication of reputable international journals. Reviewing this phenomenon, the Community Service team carried out activities to upgrade the quality of academic writing skills for lecturers through training to avoid plagiarism. The workshop was attended by 30 participants of English lecturers from UIN Salatiga and other universities in the Central Java area that discussed identifying elements of plagiarism in scientific papers and citation rules based on APA 7th edition. The methods used in this activity are socialization/lecture and discussion. The result showed that this activity can add experience to the lecturers in terms of improving their ability to write scientific papers. Moreover, this activity builds their insights about common mistakes in academic writing so they can minimize mistakes that might occur. In addition, the trainer also shared tips on how to publish research articles to be accepted in Scopus-indexed journals. This absolutely becomes new knowledge for the participants. Finally, from this Community Service activity, there are several main things to be evaluated especially the participants' self-reflection, such as (1) the lack of understanding of the participants in constructing a research problem in the thesis or dissertation to be developed in the research article; (2) the lack of knowledge of the participants in publishing Scopus indexed journals; and (3) the participants' unconsciousness in making common mistakes in academic writing.
