Abstract





Petanque is a form of boules game where the goal is to throw the ball as close as possible to a wooden ball called a cochonnet and the feet must be in a small circle. Petanque sport is a sport that has just deve;oped in Indonesia, therefore researchers want to know the motivation of students to wards petanque sport at SMA Negeri 1 Guntur, Guntur District. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with triangulation data collection method. The subjects of this study were students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Guntur and the object was SMA Negeri 1 Guntur, one of the senior high schools that already had a petanque field in Demak Regency. The results showed that students’ motivation in exercising petanque was good because of their interest in fulfilling physiological needs such as health and body fitness. In addition to meeting social needs such as getting the latest information related to health, fitness, and or techniques in doing petanque sport as well as students’ self-actualization needs. Based on the results of the research above, it can be said that the student’s motivation for petanque sport at SMA Negeri 1 Guntur is to fulfill physiological needs, social needs, and self-actualization. The suggestion for these schools is that students can take full advantage of sport facilities to support achievement. The role of schools is important in the introduction of the petanque sport as well as supporting school achievement.
