Abstract

Critical thinking ability and Self-Confidence are important in the learning of mathematics. This paper examines the
mathematical critical thinking ability and Self-Confidence among students whose learning using scientific inquiry and
student learning using conventional approaches. This study used a quasi-experimental methods, with a population of 163
students. The results showed that: 1. The average mathematical critical thinking ability of the experimental class (84,12)
was better than the average of the control class (76,50). 2. The average Self-Confidence of experimental class (78,65) was
better than the average of the control class (69,20). the conclusion in this research, were 1) Critical thinking ability of
students to learn the scientific inquiry approach is better than the students who studied with conventional approaches; 2)
Self-Confidence of students who studied with scientific inquiry approach is better than the Self -Confidence of students
who studied with conventional approaches.
