Analysis of Mathematical Communication Ability Viewed from Students’ Confidence through Blended Learning

Abstract

This study belongs to qualitative research which aims to illustrate the students’ mathematical communication ability in the blended learning and based on the students’ confidence. The study was held in grade of XI MIPA 3 SMAN 1 Jepara with selection of subjects according to the results of questionnaire so that their confidence belong to high and middle group. Determination of subjects use purposive sampling technique which selected 2 students in every group. Data analysis of the students’ mathematical communication ability in the blended learning and based on their confidence use triangulation technique from the result of the observation with the student worksheet and the result of the written test with the interview. The results show that the students’ mathematical communication ability in the blended learning quite well. Both offline and online learning support consecutively to express the mathematical thinking through oral and written, illustrate the mathematical ideas into visual depictions, and are able to use the mathematical terms and notations to present mathematical ideas. Students’ mathematical communication ability who have high confidence are categorized to be very high which is indicated by students are very able of expressing mathematical ideas, illustrating mathematical ideas in visual depictions, and using the mathematicalterms, notations, and structures. Students’ mathematical communication ability who have middle confidence are categorized to be high which is indicated by students are able of expressing mathematical ideas, illustrating mathematical ideas in visual depictions, and using the mathematical terms, notations, and structures.
