Formative Learning Progression (FLP) Program to Improve Students’ Reasoning Skills in Cell Biology
Recent studies quest the effectiveness of course program in helping students improve their reasoning skills. We developed Formative Learning Progression (FLP) course program emphasizes on improving students’ reasoning skills in Cell Biology. A number of students (n=58) of Biology Education department was involved as research subject. We split the research subject into two groups, control (n=29) and experiment (n=29). The control group students have learned in Regular Instruction program course, and the experimental group students have learned in FLP program course. We used 30 HOTS test items to measure students’ reasoning skills in pre-posttest design. At the end of course, data shows that mean posttest score of control group is 40.97 and experimental group reach to 73.93. N-gain rate of control group is 0.24, and experimental group reach to 0.62. Our results demonstrate that FLP program give positive contribution significantly to improve students’ reasoning skills in Cell Biology.
