P. Djahimo[email protected]Karolus Budiman Jama[email protected]Karus Maria Margareta[email protected]
Customary speech acts are usually presented metaphorically, and allegorically in order to imply certain meanings. Such language phenomena imply certain meanings that are textually biased. In linguistic studies, such a phenomenon is called implicature. What is unique in traditional speech acts (wedding proposal) is the implicature, both in the rules of language use and in the way the speech is delivered. Therefore, the conversation is structured in such a way as not to violate the maxims or principles of cooperation, politeness, and relevance in order to cooperate and reach an agreement. Pragmatics study is the theoretical framework used by the researchers for the discourse of betrothal speech acts in the tradition of the Rotenese Community in Tuatuka (Kupang). One of the important studies in pragmatics study is conversational implicature. Conversational implicature is a process of interpreting meaning based on both situation and context. The design of this research has been qualitative. The choice of this method is a consequence of the data collected in the form of words, sentences, symbols that will then be interpreted. Informants have been selected purposively, namely based on the research objectives to obtain accurate data. The data has been collected through in-depth interviews, recording, observation, and documentation studies. The research instruments have been a list of questions and an observation guide. Data validation has been conducted through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and source triangulation. The data has then been analyzed through the steps of categorizing units, connecting research units with themes, and interpreting the relationship between thematic units. The research findings have shown that the implicature of engagement in the tradition of the Rotenese community in Tuatuka (Kupang) aims to build cooperation and establish good manners in order to obtain an agreement in the discussion about dowry. Two types of implicatures that are most productively used in the traditional marriage ceremony in the Rotenese ethnic tradition in Tuatuka are the maxim of quantity and relevance. Both maxims are very important in speech acts because (1) the cooperation to reach an agreement should be maintained, and (2) the misunderstandings between the two parties should be avoided, and (3) the harmonious relationships between the two families (the families of both female and male) should be fostered.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://journal.unnes.ac.id/sju/seloka/article/view/75619The Semantic Role of Actor and Object Clauses in Sentences in Crime News Texts2023-12-04T08:27:58+07:00Marselina Yosefina Nantu[email protected]Rustono Rustono[email protected]Hari Bakti Mardikantoro[email protected]
Actor and object clauses are clauses whose elements have syntactic roles as actors and occupy syntactic functions as objects. In response to colonization, Eastern nations endeavored to resist through acts of mimicry and hybridity. This research aims to analyze mimicry and hybridity as forms of resistance in Eka Kurniawan's novel "Cantik itu Luka." The study seeks to broaden societal awareness regarding postcolonial studies, particularly focusing on forms of resistance, especially mimicry and hybridity. The research employs a literary sociology approach with a qualitative research design. The primary data source is the text of "Cantik itu Luka" by Eka Kurniawan. Data in this study consist of excerpts from the novel suspected to contain forms of resistance in terms of mimicry and hybridity. Data collection utilizes heuristic techniques, while data analysis employs hermeneutic techniques. The findings of this research reveal the presence of resistance exhibited by characters Dewi Ayu and indigenous characters through mimicry as a form of opposition. Imitation is observed in terms of thought patterns, education, language, and lifestyle. Additionally, indigenous characters demonstrate another form of resistance through hybridity, manifested in behavior, living tools, mindset, lifestyle, and clothing styles—an effort to preserve identities eroded by colonization.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://journal.unnes.ac.id/sju/seloka/article/view/71600Public Image of Ganjar Pranowo on the News in @Oposisicerdas.com and @Tribunnews.com Twitter Accounts2023-12-29T09:57:33+07:00Jingga Jingga[email protected]Rustono Rustono[email protected]Bernadus Wahyudi Joko Santoso[email protected]
Critical discourse analysis (CDA) on Ganjar Pranowo’s pulic image is interesting to do because in CDA, discourse not understood as a language study but used to convey the ideology to influence readers. To identify the influence of this cognitive background, this research aims to explore shifts in the field of experience in the translation of novels by identifying participants constructing the field. The study utilizes a qualitative method with the IDEATION framework from Systemic Functional Linguistics, specifically taxonomic relations theory. A parallel corpus is used, extracted from excerpts of the Indonesian novel "Perahu Kertas" and its English translation titled "Paper Boats." The investigation is conducted using the AntConc software as a corpus processing instrument. The data for this research includes nouns categorized into concrete, abstract, and metaphoric entities. The results reveal two crucial findings. Firstly, everyday concrete entities dominate in both data. Secondly, there is a shift in the translation process of selected nouns, indicated by differences in the types and frequencies of entities between the two datasets. Besides the differences in the field of experience backgrounds of each text producer and the use of translation procedures, the two findings also suggest systematic differences in each language that influence the translator’s choices and decisions underlying these shifts. This research provides a deeper understanding of the translation process and its impact on the representation of entities in the literary context

Kata kunci: entitas, field of experience, korpus, taxonomic relations.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://journal.unnes.ac.id/sju/seloka/article/view/71484The Resistance Resistance to the Dutch Colonizers in the Novel Tambera The work of Utuy Tatang Sontani2024-01-18T13:51:55+07:00Nila Dianti[email protected]Mukh Doyin[email protected]Nas Haryati Styaningsih[email protected]
The novel Tambera by Utuy Tatang Sontani is a postcolonial novel. Sixth-grade students at SD Kentong, who are the highest-level students in the school, still exhibit reluctance to speak in front of the class. Some students are still shy when asked to speak and present their work. The aim of this research is to demonstrate the success of students in speaking skills through presentation methods. It aims to train sixth-grade students at SDN Kentong Cepu to confidently present their work in front of others. This study used a descriptive qualitative classroom action research design. The researcher was directly involved in the research process, participating in actions, observing, recording, and documenting events and incidents during the research. The study was conducted in two cycles, namely cycle 1 and cycle 2. Each cycle consisted of four activities: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results of this study show an improvement in speaking skills, as indicated by the increase in the percentage of students who achieved the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) of 75. In cycle 1, the percentage of completeness from the total number of students (42) was 71.4%, while in cycle 2, it was 95.4%, exceeding the predetermined KKM. This research indicates that the application of presentation methods can improve the success of speaking skills among sixth-grade students at SDN Kentong. Teachers can implement presentation methods in teaching speaking skills to students to enhance their quality, and teachers should have a spirit of enthusiasm, always motivate students, and be creative in creating methods to stimulate students' enthusiasm in learning.

Kata kunci: keberhasilan, keterampilan berbicara, metode presentasi
2023-12-30T00:00:00+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://journal.unnes.ac.id/sju/seloka/article/view/78549The Salutations Used by Indonesian Society Through Comments on Social Media Platform TikTok2024-07-23T15:43:59+07:00Deby Triananda Noorapsari[email protected]Fathur Rokhman[email protected]Hari Bakti Mardikantoro[email protected]
The salutations in TikTok comments exhibit diverse and unique forms that warrant exploration and study from a sociolinguistic perspective, utilizing components of speech.
