Plagiarism Policy

As a form of commitment from the Jurnal Pengabdian Hukum Indonesia (Indonesian Journal of Legal Community Engagement) in preventing various forms of plagiarism, we strictly implement an anti-plagiarism policy where every submitted manuscript will be checked through the Turnitin application and signed a Statement of Originality. This policy is in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of National Education Number 17 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of Plagiarism in Higher Education and Regulation of the Rector of the State University of Semarang Number 16 of 2016 concerning Ethics, Prevention, and Handling of Plagiarism in the State University of Semarang. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are not allowed. The Jurnal Pengabdian Hukum Indonesia (Indonesian Journal of Legal Community Engagement) uses plagiarism checker to screen articles for detecting plagiarism. Detection of overlapping and similar text is used there and so quotations and appropriate citations have to be used whenever required. For checking Plagiarism, the Jurnal Pengabdian Hukum Indonesia (Indonesian Journal of Legal Community Engagement) Editorial Board will screen plagiarism with using Turnitin. If it is found plagiarism indication (above 25%), editorial board will reject manuscript immediately. Before publishing, it is required to obtain written confirmation from authors concerning to Originalty Statement from Author(s). This statement is to be signed by at least one of the authors who have obtained the assent of the co-author(s) where applicable.

Plagiarism includes (Soelistyo, 2011):

  1. Word-for-word plagiarism – borrowing another author’s language word-for-word but not putting it in quotation marks or citing it correctly.
  2. Source plagiarism – using the ideas of others without giving recognition or citing the source explicitly.
  3. Plagiarism of authorship – presenting another author's work as one’s own.
  4. Self-plagiarism - authors publishing articles in more than one journal by recycling papers. The important issue related to self-plagiarism is that significant changes must have been made to the new article when citing one's work. The previous article should only contain a small percentage of any new article produced. So, readers will receive new information, which may be inspired by but different from the previous articles.
