This study aims to analyze the types and usage of language registers in Jacques Audiard’s film Un Prophète. It is based on the theory of language registers proposed by Marzieh and Zivar (2021) and David (2008), which classify linguistic variations into four categories: formal, neutral, familiar, and colloquial/vulgar registers. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a discourse analysis approach. The main data source is the film Un Prophète, supported by its French transcripts and subtitles. The results reveal the presence of all four registers in the film: neutral register (1,052 occurrences, 73.87%), familiar register (284 occurrences, 19.94%), formal register (44 occurrences, 3.09%), and colloquial register (44 occurrences, 3.09%). The neutral register is the most dominant, indicating that the language used in the film is largely clear, accessible, and reflective of everyday communication between the characters. In conclusion, the variation in language registers in Un Prophète enhances the film’s linguistic richness and contributes to an authentic portrayal of social interaction.
