This research aims to analyze the signifiers and signifieds in the film Le Jeune Imam using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory. The film is considered an audiovisual text containing verbal and nonverbal signs that contribute to the construction of meaning. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through repeated observation of the film, focusing on ten selected scenes containing significant signs. The data analysis involved identifying the relevant scenes, classifying the signifiers and signifieds, and examining the relationships between them in line with Saussure’s theory. The signifiers consisted of dialogues, facial expressions, and body gestures, while the signifieds referred to the concepts and meanings associated with these elements in each scene. The findings reveal that the signs represent various moral, religious, and social values, including responsibility, trust, betrayal of trust, the boundaries of religious responsibilities, the pursuit of justice, social conflict, threats of violence, regret, and guilt. The analysis demonstrates that meaning is constructed through the interaction of verbal and nonverbal signs within specific social and cultural contexts. This study concludes that Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory provides a relevant framework for understanding how cinematic signs convey moral, social, and religious messages.
