Meaning of Open Access

In accordance with major definitions of open access in scholarly literature, including the Budapest Open Access Initiative, Berlin Declaration, and Bethesda Statement, the Indonesia Media Law Review defines open access by the following conditions:

  • Peer-reviewed literature is freely available without subscription or price barriers.
  • Literature is made immediately available in open access format, without an embargo period.
  • Published material can be reused without obtaining additional permission, provided that the original publication is correctly cited and the applicable license terms are followed.

This means that all articles published in the Indonesia Media Law Review, including data, graphics, and supplementary materials, may be linked from external sources, indexed by search engines, and reused by text-mining applications, websites, blogs, and other platforms in accordance with the applicable license terms. Such reuse must provide proper attribution to the original source and publisher.

The Indonesia Media Law Review believes that open access publishing fosters the exchange of research findings across disciplines and facilitates interdisciplinary research. It also enables researchers worldwide, including those in developing countries, and interested members of the public to access scholarly results. Although the journal publishes all its articles under an open access model, it recognizes that open access can coexist with other forms of scholarly communication and publication, including society-based publishing and academic conferences.
