Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed Natural Science (IPA) learning, particularly in overcoming abstract and complex subject matter. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness, types, and implementation of digital learning media in improving learning outcomes and 21st-century skills in junior high school (SMP) science education. The study used the Systematic Literature Review method with a PRISMA approach. Literature searches were conducted across four databases (Crossref, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and OpenAlex) using the keywords "digital learning media" AND "science learning" AND "junior high school" for publications from 2020-2025. Out of 3,114 identified articles, 10 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria for analysis. Eight types of digital media were identified: (1) Digital Comics, (2) Augmented Reality, (3) Virtual Laboratory, (4) Interactive Presentation Platforms, (5) Gamification Platforms, (6) Interactive E-Modules, (7) Learning Websites, and (8) Educational Games. Digital learning media were proven effective in improving cognitive learning outcomes (N-Gain 0.31-0.70; completion rate 75%-88%), higher-order thinking skills, scientific representation abilities, student motivation, and digital literacy. The effectiveness of the media is influenced by its suitability to the material's characteristics, integration with learning models, user-friendly design, and infrastructure support. Digital learning media have great potential in transforming science education to be more interactive and effective. Successful implementation requires careful consideration of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), the alignment of media with learning objectives, student characteristics, and adequate infrastructure support.
