Abstract

Mindfulness in interpersonal relationships includes a bigger scope than the ones usually measured in many mindfulness measurements tools. Interpersonal mindfulness doesn’t only involve the awareness of oneself, but also other people in interpersonal interactions. For this purpose, a measurement tool that specifically measures mindfulness in interpersonal relationships is needed. This study adapted Interpersonal Mindfulness Scale (IMS) to Indonesian and gathered reliability and validity evidence for the adaptation. This IMS adaptation went through the process of forward-backward translation, expert reviews, and cognitive interview before being administered to 208 respondents. The respondents are sampled by the convenience sampling technique. IMS adaptation is found to be a highly reliable measurement tool (α = 0.843) and most items has good discrimination index.    IMS adaptation is also found to have sufficient content validity (Aiken’s V), but Confirmatory Factor Analysis shows that the adaptation doesn’t have good model fit (p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.079, TLI = 0.711, CFI = 0.736, SRMR = 0.111, and Hoelter’s Critical N = 109.233). After 10 items were deleted, the IMS adaptation shows acceptable model fit (p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.055, TLI = 0.911, CFI = 0.927, SRMR = 0.064, and Hoelter’s Critical N = 157.253) with a good reliability (α = 0.783). IMS in Indonesian version can be used to measure interpersonal mindfulness after deleting 10 items. For the next study, researchers are suggested to revise or add new items in the presence aspect.
