Abstract

Efforts to optimize learning through laboratory activities are expected to be able to increase reasoning and thinking power of students which can in turn improve their learning achievement. In this research, a viscosimeter instrument was developed as an alternative teaching aid of fluid topic. This R & D research was carried out through several stages: identifying problem, reviewing literature, identifying existing teaching aid, making teaching aid, testing the developed aid, analyzing and repairing the aid, testing the repaired aid, and developing manual of the aid. The aid was developed based on the principle of liquid friction on the contact area. The aid works on the basis of the rolling of friction surface, in a form of cylinder wall, in fluids surrounded by the container. The result of aid calibration performed shows that for significance level of 0.05, the ttable  found is 1.734, while tvalue is 1.759.  Additionally, the results of viscosity measurement of two kinds of liquid in room temperature are as follows: η glycerin = 782.4 x 10-3 Pas, with relative error 1.23% and η oil = 214.2 x 10-3 Pas with relative error of 7.23%.
