Abstract

This research is a type of qualitative research that aims to describe students' understanding of Junior High School on the concept of linear equations of one variable (PLSV) in terms of gender differences. The results showed that female subjects and male subjects are different in making statements about PLSV characteristics and constructing using cause-and-effect models of a system (PLSV). The differences between female subjects and male subjects as follows: mention some of the features of the PLSV, whereas the male subject makes a mistake in explaining the result of the counting operation on a PLSV constantly. Whereas in presenting the PLSV into multiple representations, giving different examples of PLSV, grouping several mathematical sentences into samples rather than examples of PLSV, summarizing PLSV with logical reasons, and mentioning the similarities and differences between PLSV and not PLSV the two subjects didnt perform significant differences.
