Complexity, perception, and understanding of visual elements and principles are key factors influencing aesthetic judgments of any artwork. Artists such as Zhāng Zéduān (张择端), and Qiú Yīng (仇英 - Chóuyīng), both well-known artists, provide an excellent opportunity for analysing their artworks. The aim of this discourse is to provide, using a qualitative method of evaluation, a gauge of visual attributes that influence the complexity of a painting; i.e., compositional arrangement called visual perspective in its two forms of linear perspective and Axonometry projection. This visual complexity of a landscape refers to the level of detail to be represented by using the principle of orthogonal drawings, which influence the aesthetic outcome of an artwork. As a result, this paper offers an overall historical description of the development of axonometry drawing within Chinese traditional landscape painting.
