Abstract

ABSTRACT
The objective of this study is to developproblem based learning instrumentsof medical physics which are valid and effective. These learning instruments were developed based on Borg and Gall model. The objetcs of the study were the second semester of midwifery students who took medical physics subject. The research design was pretest-posttest control group. The subject of research  consisted ofexperimental andcontrol  class. The number ofexperimental class sample was 49 students of Semarang Pantiwilasa Midwifery Academy and 39 students of Stikes Widya Husada Midwifery as the control one. The result showedthat the learning instruments of medical physics by using problem based learning tested by 3 experts were acceptable to be applied in the class. There was also a significant difference on the ability of reasoning and concept mastery between the two classes. The experimental group students could perform better than the control group students. The N-gain of reasoning of experimental group students was 0.60 and the control group was 0.30. while the N-gain of concept mastery of the experimental group was 0.55 and the control group was 0.43. In conclusion, the use of medical physics problem based learning instruments was effective to improve students reasoning and  concept mastery.
