Guidelines for Reviewers

Peer reviewers are responsible for evaluating manuscripts objectively, critically, and professionally based on their academic expertise. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive comments, scholarly recommendations, and practical feedback to improve the quality, originality, and contribution of manuscripts submitted to The Indonesian Journal of International Clinical Legal Education (ICCLE).

Reviewers are encouraged to assess the strengths and weaknesses of manuscripts, evaluate their relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and identify opportunities for improvement in legal analysis, methodology, theoretical framework, clinical legal education perspectives, and scholarly contribution.

1. Important Review Points

Originality and Novelty

Ensure that the manuscript offers original ideas, innovative approaches, and meaningful scholarly contributions in the fields of clinical legal education, legal practice, social justice, legal aid, lawyering skills, experiential learning, and legal education in both Indonesian and international contexts.

Relevance to Journal Scope

Evaluate whether the manuscript is consistent with the focus and scope of ICCLE, including but not limited to:

Research Problem and Objectives

Assess whether the legal issues, research questions, and objectives are clearly formulated, relevant, and contribute to contemporary discussions on clinical legal education and access to justice.

Quality of Legal Analysis

Examine whether the discussion is analytical, critical, systematic, and supported by relevant legal theories, legislation, jurisprudence, educational frameworks, and scholarly literature.

Methodological Accuracy

Review the suitability of the research methods, legal approaches, educational research methods, empirical techniques, data sources, and analytical procedures used in the manuscript.

Use of Recent References

Ensure that the manuscript incorporates recent, credible, and relevant academic references, particularly from reputable international journals, legal education publications, and clinical legal education scholarship.

Consistency Between Sections

Verify that the title, abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion are coherent and interconnected.

Contribution to Scholarship and Practice

Assess whether the manuscript contributes to the development of clinical legal education, legal pedagogy, access to justice initiatives, legal aid practice, social justice advocacy, or legal professional training.

Language and Academic Writing

Ensure that the manuscript is written in clear, coherent, and academically appropriate English.

Ethical Compliance

Identify potential plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, unethical research practices, or other violations of publication ethics.

2. Before Reviewing

Expertise

Ensure that the manuscript corresponds with your area of expertise. If the topic falls outside your academic competence, please notify the editor immediately and, if possible, recommend an alternative reviewer.

Availability

Ensure that you have sufficient time to complete the review process. Reviews should generally be completed within two weeks. If additional time is required, please contact the editor as soon as possible.

Conflict of Interest

Disclose any potential academic, institutional, financial, or personal conflict of interest before conducting the review. Any circumstance that may compromise the objectivity of the review should be reported to the editorial office.

3. Review Process

In reviewing the manuscript, reviewers should consider the following aspects:

  1. Title. Does the title clearly represent the content, focus, and contribution of the manuscript?
  2. Abstract. Does the abstract accurately reflect the objectives, methods, originality, and findings of the study?
  3. Introduction. Does the introduction adequately explain the background, legal or educational issues, research gap, urgency, and objectives of the study?
  4. Originality and Novelty. Does the manuscript provide innovative and meaningful contributions to clinical legal education, legal practice, social justice, legal aid, or legal pedagogy?
  5. Scope. Is the manuscript consistent with the focus and scope of ICCLE?
  6. Methodology. Are the research methods, legal approaches, educational research designs, data sources, and analytical methods clearly explained and academically appropriate?
  7. Results and Discussion. Are the arguments, findings, and discussions presented critically, systematically, and supported by relevant legal theories, educational frameworks, regulations, jurisprudence, and scholarly references?
  8. Conclusion. Does the conclusion adequately address the research objectives and demonstrate the significance, implications, or contribution of the study?
  9. References. Are the references relevant, recent, credible, and sufficient to support the academic quality of the manuscript?
  10. Tables and Figures. Are tables, charts, diagrams, and figures relevant, properly explained, and easy to understand?

4. Writing Style

  • The manuscript should be written in clear, coherent, and academically appropriate English.
  • The manuscript should contain analytical, systematic, and critical legal and educational discussions.
  • The manuscript should demonstrate relevance to contemporary issues in clinical legal education, legal practice, social justice, and access to justice.
  • The manuscript should provide value for academics, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, students, and legal educators.

5. Ethical Responsibilities

  • All manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents.
  • Reviewers must not contact authors directly regarding submitted manuscripts.
  • If reviewers suspect plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, authorship misconduct, or any other ethical violation, they should immediately inform the editorial office with sufficient explanation.
  • Reviewers are expected to provide objective, fair, constructive, and professional recommendations to assist editors in making publication decisions.

6. Final Review Recommendation

Reviewers are requested to complete the review process within the specified review period and provide clear recommendations regarding the manuscript, including:
